MACBETH
Sheesh, the things I do for you people.
Random thoughts that went through my head while watching this were:
1. FESSELN was a prettier movie than I thought it was.
2. DEVIL'S PARADISE wasn't that bad, when you look at the bigger picture.
3. Peter Sellars has more talent than I thought he did.
4. Prochnow's getup in THE LAST BORDER wasn't all that original. It goes without saying I'm gonna trash any classical work done in an unclassical manner, but REALLY. Shakespeare's works just shouldn't feature women with a dozen bare breasts each and full-view shots of their naked privates. (Well, they were almost fair about that. You also see more of Macbeth than you want to in one scene. Note to Shakespearean actor wannabes: wear pants. Please.)
It's also mainly done in the dark, although in this case that's more of a blessing than not. When you're not being flashed there's nothing to look at but ropes. I'd consider deducting fewer points for that if everybody hadn't overacted comically - but then, that's probably the reason for the ropes. "Chewing the scenery" in this production merely meant getting a little extra roughage... no paint chips or splinters.
Yech! Next movie, please....
