DAS MÄDCHEN VON GEGENÜBER

Well, there's this boy watching a girl at an amusement park at night. When she leaves, he follows her to an old building and ends up trying to rape her, but doesn't get too far because he hears somebody coming. In trying to keep the girl quiet, he accidentally kills her. The person who shows up and finds the dead body is Jürgen; the kid gets away without being seen.

The kid is consumed with guilt over the whole thing. He does his best to hide or destroy the evidence, but also spends the rest of the movie tinkering with suicide. Meantime, the detective on the case suspects Jürgen, especially after it comes out that Jürgen was having an affair with the girl. Both the victim and the murderer were students of his.

Jürgen comes to believe that the kid is responsible, but can neither convince him to confess nor persuade the detective to pursue the lead any further. Finally, with Jürgen actually having been charged and jailed, the kid goes back to the amusement park, writes a confession note and poisons himself.

I like this one. The German fans say it's not as good as Jagdrevier, but it is a better watch if you can't follow the dialog since it's easier to tell what's going on from watching the action. The cast is very good, and the final scene with the kid taking poison and then stumbling through the amusement park dying is beautifully nightmarish.
