RIPPER: LETTER FROM HELL

Maybe it's only because I saw this right after watching GUNBLAST VODKA, but I thought this was a surprisingly good movie for a slasher flick. It does have a few cliches and some slips in logic, but it also has excellent characterization, a very fine cast, and plenty of real creepiness and suspense; it keeps you guessing about the identity of the "ripper" right up to the end. Jürgen's role is a little too small given that he's the detective who's been chasing the guy for years, but with an ensemble this good it's hard to complain. A.J. Cook (THE VIRGIN SUICIDES) and Bruce Payne give smashing performances.
